46ers 16U Girls Take 2023 Fall Foliage Classic

Over the weekend of September 22-24, 2023, the 46ers 16U Girls entered their first tournament of the season, the 2023 Vermont Stars Fall Foliage Classic in Burlington, VT. The tournament field included 16U and 19U teams, the Vermont Shamrocks 16U, Vermont Junior Catamounts 16U, Vermont Shamrocks 19U, and the Syracuse Valley Eagles 19U.

The 16U girls matched up against the Vermont Junior Catamounts in their first game of the weekend. In a back and forth game, the 46ers ended on top finishing with a 7-4 win. Leading the team in this game on the scoresheet was Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez ’08 who finished the contest with 2 goals and 1 assist. Other goal scorers included Olivia Laflesh ’07, Evelyn Noakes ’07, Kyle Surprenant ’07, Amaya Abellard ’08, and Avery Parker ’08.

The second game of the day saw the 46ers 16U Girls play the Vermont Shamrocks 19U. The 46ers got on the board in the 1st period with a goal by Kylee Surprenant ‘07 from the point with the help of a perfect screen in front of the goaltender by Katie McCormick ’08. The 46ers got on the board twice in the 2nd from Audrina McAllister ’08, assisted by Amaya Abellard ’08 and Avery Parker ’08. The last goal of the game came with 15 seconds remaining on a Power Play goal by Olivia Laflesh ’07, assisted by Abellard. Kori Lamoy ’07, was solid in net stopping all shots faced and making at least 4 or 5 outstanding saves to earn the shutout. Final score was a 3-0 win.

The third game of the weekend came early on Sunday and saw the 46ers match up against the Vermont Shamrocks 16U. The game saw the Shamrocks go up 3-0 and the 46ers couldn’t find a way to battle back. The 46ers got on the board in the 2nd period on a goal by Aspen Caswell ’08 with an assist by Abellard. The final score ended with a 4-1 loss.

The 46ers and Shamrocks 16U would have a rematch in the Championship Game later in the day. The 46ers would get on the board twice in the 1st frame with goals by Caswell and Amaya-Gutierrez, giving the 46ers a lead, 2-1, after the 1st frame. The 2nd would see Abellard come out on fire notching a natural hat-trick with 3 straight goals and helping to give the 46ers a 5-2 win and the 2023 Vermont Stars Fall Foliage Championship!
